Welcome to Backspindle Games – Designers of fun and strategy board games

Backspindle Games was established in Northern Ireland in 2010, with the focus on delivering fun and strategy board games.  Our desire over the next few years is to publish more games in different languages. In the past few years, we have been regular exhibitors at Spiel, Essen and the UK Games Expo.

Our philosophy is that you are never too old or too young to have fun with friends playing games. These can be interactive, cooperative and strategic games. Above all, we feel that ‘theme and balance’ are vital to enjoyable game-play.  It’s wonderful receiving compliments from players about how they feel we have achieved this in our games.

Game History

Our first game Guards! Guards! was loved. It was a boardgame mechanic driven by the abilities of 90 Discworld character cards.  We followed that with Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice. Receiving the Best New Family Game Award at the UK Games Expo 2014 for Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice was amazing. Thank you to all of the thousands who voted the game to a resounding 60% of the polled vole.

After that, we published a second edition that included a 3D wrestling ring playing-board with ropes. We were delighted to publish our second Discworld board game, Clacks, in the autumn of 2015.

In addition, it has also been published in Polish and Czech. In June 2016 we released the 2nd edition of Codinca at the UK Games Expo, where it was loved. Additionally, it has since sold around the world including 550 Barnes & Noble stores in the USA.

Condinca

In 2017 we published the stunning Dance of the Fireflies strategy game. A game of tact and sneakiness.  Family favourite  Ninja Squad which allows for cooperative or player versus player games came in 2018.

In 2019 we published our third fantasy novel to boardgame, with MourneQuest. Moreover,  yet another fun and strategy boardgame.

Finally, our latest project is a new game called Lucha Wars which hopefully will be available in early 2021.

Awards

  • 2014 – Best New Family Game at UK Games Expo for Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice
  • 2016 – Codinca was shortlisted in top three strategy games at UK Games Expo
  • 2020 – Awarded Platinum Innovator Company by the Department of the Economy for Northern Ireland for MourneQuest.
